“ Binding”, 2019
Through my eyes, relationships and emotions are a series ofcomplex intertwining connections that bring people together. The threads that bind us can be strong forming connections that last a lifetime; or loose and weak, snapping easily under pressure like being cut away with a pair of scissors.
In this series the model has been tied up to evoke the experience of Shibari (the art of rope tying). My experience of Shibari and being tied was one of being held tight and hugged all over my body. Here the rope has been replaced with thinner more delicate thread where the model is bound but not really held securely or feeling fulfilled. The threads wrap the body but are not organized like in Shibari, this chaos reflects the problems that come to me and the emptiness and loneliness I’ve experienced navigating cities and meeting people in places far from my home.
